Why We Need Progress and Funny Women

Celebrations are still going strong for International Women’s Day this week, and quite right too. Let’s keep them going as long as we can!

We celebrated IWD and Progress at my event Contacts and Cocktails last week. I love the vibe, passion and compassion as my tribe of networkers help each other so readily. That’s what facilitated networking is all about.

Press For Progress is this year’s campaign theme for IWD.

The World Economic’s Forum’s Gender Gap Report tell us that gender parity is over 200 years away. What?   200 years?  Clearly, there is still so much work to be done.
When I ran my recruitment agency in the City of London, I was incensed to see how few women were on Boards of Companies then and did my utmost best to hone interview techniques of my candidates going for Senior roles.

Shockingly, the Gender Diversity on Boards Report from Verdict shows there are fewer women in CEO positions now than years ago. Only 6 in 2017, compared to 9 in 2014.

Be Gender Smart Book by Inge Wouldstra featured on blog by Jo James AmberLife for IWD 2018

One author who I worked with a few years ago, Inge Woudstra from W2O Consulting, researched and wrote her book, Be Gender Smart.

Inge organises networking events for HR Directors and those in Gender Diversity roles wanting to gain clarity and contacts to improve the situation.

What contact can you pass on today to help someone in your network?

Do you have contacts on LinkedIn who would like to hear about her meetings?

Funny Women Finals.

Funny Women Awards Final in Blog for IWD by Jo James AmberLifeWe supported brilliant new female comedy at The Funny Women Awards Charity Final held at The Duchess Theatre, London.

We raised funds and awareness for UN Women part of #HeForShe Arts Week and supported the female comedy community.  What an hilarious evening!

Jan Raven hosted the evening and there were 10 funny women who got up on stage and entertained us. Sometimes for the first time in a theatre.

The female comedy community needs you. Be it your support in the audience, a sponsorship opportunity and of course if you want to train and elevate your talents. More events from Funny Women are planned, so if you’d like to get involved, go and check them out over at FunnyWomen.com

Carrying on the IWD celebrations, I’m looking forward to seeing a vibrant group of business owners at Contacts and Cuisine on Wednesday. Knowing who’s coming, I think we’re in for a real treat!
And remember, I’m cheering you on in your role as you make progress and drive your business forward. I support you. Get in touch if you need me, I’m here to help you.

To your success and happiness, have a progressive week ahead 🙂
